Berkshire Hathaway recruits M&A insurance team

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance said Tuesday that it has assembled a team to write transactional liability insurance in the United States and Canada.

The Boston-based unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. will offer representations and warranties insurance and other coverages for risks associated with corporate transactions. Both primary and excess coverage is available.

The insurer named Robert Underhill as senior vice president and head of the transactional liability. Mr. Underhill was most recently a partner at the law firm Locke Lord L.L.P. He also held executive roles focused on insurance-related risks at Fortress Investment Group L.L.C., Credit Suisse Group A.G. and American International Group Inc. He is based in Berkshire Hathaway Specialty’s New York office.

“We look forward to continuing to expand our market presence and our team, with Robert’s experience and leadership at the forefront,” Dan Fortin, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty’s head of executive and professional lines, in a statement.

Dan Crosby was named as vice president, transactional liability. Also based in New York, he was most recently vice president and underwriting leader, transactional liability, at QBE Americas Inc.

Amy Bowman and Michael Brooks were named assistant vice presidents. Boston-based Ms. Bowman joined Berkshire Hathaway Specialty as counsel in the legal department in 2014, after serving in various legal roles at AIG for more than seven years. Mr. Brooks was most recently an associate at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel L.L.P., where he focused on corporate mergers and acquisitions experience. He is based in New York.
